Default save directory

In Office 2003, when I open a file that was an attachment to an email, and
then attempt to do a File Save As, the directory is always OLK1. A
subdirectory of the Temporary Internet Files. Why doesn't the directory that
I set up as my default for files selected, and how do I stop Office
applications from using the pesky OLK1 directory?

Then DON'T OPEN the file before attempting the Save AS. The OLK1 folder
is where the attachment opens and of course when you do Save As with an
open file the default is the location it was opened in. So just r-click
and then Save As, and things will be as you wish, Opening it first is
the problem.

OR...just click the My Document icon along the right in the Places Bar
to quickly default to your default document folder.

OR...browse to your preferred folder and then click the Tools icon on
the save dialog box and click Add to Places Bar to add your preferred
folder to that panel. Then you can click it directly to quickly save
files in there.

My user is a lawyer and he didn't want "to do all that crap", (and I
quote...), hence I found the registry fix. Some people won't do the
simplest, 2 second things to help themselves. Amazing! Ahh...that's what
keeps us in business, though...right?

It is great fun to watch the dialog, and to try the registry entries. Alas,
the proble persists. I am aware of the ability to use the "work-arounds" but
was hoping that collectively we could come up with a more elegant approach.

This problem is as frustrating as the refusal of Microsoft to put a "new
folder" button in the Windows Explorer application, like exists in most of
the other applications. Funny how the one application that is supposed to
help us manage our files and folders won't allow us to create a folder
without going throught the arduous "File New Folder" menu sequence.

But I digress........
