Default .XML Editor

When I open InfoPath 2003, I repeatedly receive a dialog box stating
"Microsoft Office is not currently set as the default program for opening and
editing .xml files. Do you want to set Office as the default program?" If I
click yes, and select retire default settings/shortcuts/registery I still
receive this dialog box each time I open InfoPath.

With that being siad, I am aware of the Tool=>Options feature that allows
for InfoPath to check on startup to see whether or not it is the default .xml
editor.

My concern is that I had recently tried an evaluation of Macromedia
Dreamweaver and have uninstalled it. However, the .xml files on my system
still have the Dreamweaver icon. I have looked in Folder Options and
discovered that .xml file types are indeed set to open with Office XML Editor.

Any ideas how I can truly make sure InfoPath is successfully restored to the
default .xml editor? Registry hacks, hidden folders containing Dreamweaver
files, the uninstallation missed? I am open for suggestions. I cannot
believe that a third party program would alter Microsoft Office's ability to
reclaim file types.

I am posting on Macromedia's site as well.

Is there anything else that you've installed that might want to use the .xml
extension? It's perfectly fine for a newly installed app to claim an
existing extension, but it's also bad if that app keeps claiming it without
asking the user.

I'll pass this along for investigation, to see if Dreamweaver is registering
the .xml extension too frequently. From the Office side of things, there's
not too much you can do, sorry.

Thanks,
Brian

Thanks Brian,

There were no other apps installed that would have attempted to claim .xml
file extentions, but that is a great tip. I managed to purge the final
rements of Dreamweaver and successfully reclaim all .xml files for MS Office
InfoPath :) I had to do quite an extensive search in the Internet, MS
TechNet, and Macromedia's web sites. Had to "hack" the registry of any
Dreamweaver remenants and reapired MS Office infoPath for the Xth time, and
behold, properly registered file types (at least properly registered for
me...). I really appreciate your help and insight.
