Deleting blocks of text

how do i delete a selected block of text when i press the delet button without being asked Y or N

thanks....i have word 2003 and this does not seem to fix the problem....any other ideas

Those settings are the only known cause of the specific problem described.
If you can't overtype selected text, then make sure you have "Typing
replaces selection" checked on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.

There are two options to be unchecked. Did you get them both? These options
are the only known cause of the problem you are describing.

The fix for this has been posted thousands of times. If you had searched,
you would have found it: Tools | Options | General: clear the check boxes
for both items that refer to WordPerfect.
