Deliverable Tracking

I'm curious how others track documentation deliverables.

I recently joined a project in which document deliverables (i.e. training
manuals, sign offs, etc) where not actively tracked. Each project team also
maintains their own project plan.
I'd like to reference these document deliverables using project.
I believe that I have 3 options:
1. Insert one of the Text columns. The project lead would input the name of
the corresponding deliverable in this field.
2. Insert the hyperlink column into each project plan. The project lead
would insert the hyperlink address of the file into the corresonding
deliverable (we have an intranet based document repository)
3. Insert a task named "Deliverable" as a subtask. The Deliverable Task
would have other subtasks which represent each physical document. All of
these deliverable tasks would have no work effort associated with them.

I think # 2 is the best as it seems to be the most efficient.

Please let me know what you think of my options and what you've done to
track and identify deliverbles.

Thanks!

I tend to agree with #2, if you want to track the deliverables in Project.
We don't track the actual documents, just the status. It is a task like any
other task.

I'm curious, what repository are you using?
