Deploying Macros

Jim Zeeb

I want to deploy some general word macros I've created so other people can
use them.

It appears that the macro's should "live" in the users Normal.dot file so
they are available for use on any word document.

I've created a .dot template file to distribute that contains the macros. I
want to automate the process of copying the macros from my template to their
Normal.dot
What is the best way to do this?

Thanks

Hi Jim,

Please don't mess with people's Normal.dot templates. That way lies
madness... that is, your users will get mad at you. :-(

Instead, distribute your separate template and place it in Word's Startup
folder, where it will become a "global" template. The macros will be
available in all documents, without altering Normal.dot at all.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/DistributeMacros.htm for suggested
methods.

As Jay said, don't mess with other people's normal.dot files. The general
term for macros that do this is "virus."

See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.
