Determining the best start date for a project

N

Nate

I have received a list of 20 priority projects for the upcoming fiscal year.
I have created "dummy" projects and assigned propsed resources based on
estimates. I dont have/want to enter in any dates. Can MS Project Server/PWA
analyze these projects and tell when the best time is to start each of
them?
I prioritized the projects in Project Modeler and played around with that
a bit... but it doesnt seem to go as far as I'd like it to with the data. If
MS Project can not do this, is there a product that can? Thanks!

Hi Nate,

I presume you are using Project Server 2003. The modeler may not be the best
tool to use. Generally I would say no, unless you can determin the
dependencies of projects. If you are able to create project ( or better
project task) dependencies, which MS Project and Project Server allows you to
do, then based on these dependencies, you are able to identify the potential
best starting date for your projects. By saying that you would still have to
check that you are comfortable with the dates of course, afterall the system
does not do the project management for your, that is something you will still
need to do, but at least it tells you based on the data which you mentain,
the best options.

I hope this makes sense. Please let me know if you have any more questions
regarding dependencies.
Thanks
