Well, they are very similar except that the outline number is generated
automatically by Project and cannot be changed by user. The WBS on the
other hand is a dual field, that is, Project enters data automatically
but the user can change the data.
One of the best ways to find out more about fields in Project is to add
the field of interest as a column in a view. Then hover your mouse over
the column heading. A help box will pop-up allowing you to hit the link
for help information on that field.
