Different Page Numbering for Different Sections

I have a document that I would like to make the page numbering work as follows

First 'x' pages have no numbering, second 'y' pages are number i, ii, iii,
iv, etc..., and that last 'z' pages are 1,2,3,4...

I have tried reading all the help documentation that comes with Microsoft
word, but it is pretty much worthless. I followed the help instructions and
it doesn't work.

Anybody know how to do this,
