Digital Signatures

At my firm we do not store our templates in the User Template directory. We store them in the Workgroup Template directory.

Question: If we created our own digital signature to sign our templates, set the Security Level at Medium on the templates - with the templates in the Workgroup Template directory would users receive any warning messages about the macros? Would the macros be able to run or would the macros be disabled?

Our firm is very customized and we cannot have users receiving warnings every time they want to run a macro. What is the best solution for what I am trying to do?

You can specify in the Macro Security settings to trust all install
templates and addins. The Work Group templates folder is included in the
trusted locations.

If you do sign the templates, users will be prompted to trust the
certificate the first time the certificate is used.
You can get around this by using the Custom Maintenance Wizard (CMW - using
Office XP or 2003) or by pushing our a Registry fix to register the
Certificate.

If you are using a Certificate or Trusting the folder, set the Security
level to High. Setting to Medium users will be prompted when opening a files
containing macros or even ActiveX controls.

Take a look at this article for additional information.
