Digitally Signing Full Trust InfoPath 2007 Forms

Peter Ellis

Hi, all -

I've been reading over the following MSDN article as I try to figure
out how best to deploy a full trust InfoPath 2007 form to SharePoint
2007 (Standard edition):

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb251021.aspx

I'm a little confused about the options available. If we digitally
sign a form, does that eliminate the need to do a local install of
that same form? The MSDN article doesn't make that clear. We want to
be able to deploy full trust forms, but we don't want the overhead of
locally installing forms on each and every machine.

Thanks!

Hi Peter,

I know you understand the difference, but for others that may be reading this:
1. Making a form fully-trusted requires you to use a code-signing
certificate when designing the form. You can then set the form as
fully-trusted.
2. Digitally signing a form allows users to apply their own digital
signatures to a form when they are filling it out.

If you are using InfoPath Forms Services via SharePoint, then no, you don't
need to install the form on user's machines. You only need to publish the
form to InfoPath Forms Services, and this would then be available to your
SharePoint users to access via either their browser or the InfoPath client
(you can force browser-only using Forms Services parameters).

You can also distribute fully-trusted forms to your users via Email, so when
they open the form from their email it will automatically install on their
machines. Your code-signing certificate needs to be trusted by their
machines in this case.

Gavin.
