Disappearing Text Boxes

Word 2000: I'm designing callouts for screenshots as follows
1. Paste screen into Word and set Layout to Square to move it to the drawing layer
2. Create Callouts by grouping a circle (no fill) to a textbox with the callout number. This screen has 15 callouts
3. Add lines from callout to appropriate location on the screenshot
4. Group the whole thing together
Having finished, it looks fine on the screen. When I print it, the callouts print as empty circles--the numbers disappear.

I've had this happen to me too... when it does, ungrouping everything
fixes the printing problem. Can't explain why though.

Just figured out how to make it work:
1. Ungroup everything.
2. For every circle/text box pair, move the text box to the front and set to no fill.
3. Regroup everything.
As to why it prints correctly when everything is ungrouped without doing all this, I have no clue...
