Dislaying Images Makes No Sense

I have a laptop, html view, open email, contains a graphic with the tag src =
"cid:[email protected]". If the image file is a signature, the
image displays fine; if it is grahic such as a print screen or similar local
graphic, it doesn't display, I just get a box with the obnoxious little red x
in it. The content is there because if I reply or forward the message, the
graphic is dislayed in the Word editor, no problems, quoted content including
the graphic is sent and viewable by the recepient. Here is the code view
from a sample message which you can snip from from the subsequent posts. TIA

This one does not display the image in the Outlook 2003 HTML view:

<p><font size=2 color=navy face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-
family:
Arial;color:navy'><img border=0 width=576 height=268 id="_x0000_i1025"
src="cid:[email protected]"></span></font><o:p></o:p></p>

Same message, this one displays fine. It is the signature graphic.

<p><font size=2 color=navy face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-
family:
Arial;color:navy'><img border=0 width=134 height=66 id="_x0000_i1026"
src="cid:[email protected]"></span></font><o:p></o:p></p>
