Display of Repetitive Milestones within MS Project

I have repetitive tasks over the remainder of the Calendar year. I want to
establish repetitive weekly milestones. I cannot seem to indicate repetitive
milestones unless I manually insert a picture at the appropriate calendar day
for the calendar year. Has anyone encountered this issue? What resolution
did you employ?

AnnJ,

Are you creating the task using the "Insert-Recurring Task" functionality in
the Gantt view?

David - yes in response to your question.

Yes, David - they all are set on an established day within a week period.
If this is a duplicate response, my apologies - just learning my way around
this process.

Hi Ann,

If you choose Insert > Recurring Task and set the duration to 0 days, select
the recurrence pattern of weekly, every week on and select the day (Monday,
Tuesday) what happens? This should create both the summary recurring task
and each occurrence spread weekly on each day of the week you set.. If you
click the [+] next to the summary recurring task, do you see each
occurrence?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

JulieS:

Thanks for the suggestion - I have this part as you defined it below. Where
I am having problems is identification of the milestone after e.g. 5 tasks
-AND- that milestone is also to be met every week on specific recurring days.
The only way I see it working is what I define as a milestone has to change
to a task in order to have it recur throughout the year period. I can insert
an object into the Gantt Chart to define the recurring milestone dates, but
that is only applicable on the one view and it is dropped on all other views.

Hi Ann,

Okay, I am getting confused here :)

Setting up the recurring tasks seems to be working, yes?
The part about "identification after 5 tasks" -- can you link the 5th task
as the predecessor to one of the recurring tasks?
Recurring tasks are constrained with a Start No Earlier than constraint, so
the recurring task can move *later* just not earlier.
I don't know if we are getting caught up in terminology, so pardon my
confusion. Perhaps it would be easier if you told us a bit more about your
project: what sort of task needs to be repeated every week for the entire
year and what other tasks are the "drivers" for this repeating task?

The idea of "inserting an object" into the Gantt chart -- what "object" are
you trying to insert? A picture? A text box? If you want the tasks with
their dates to show in every view, you need to create them as tasks, not
pictures or text boxes drawn on the Gantt chart.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

FYI - a milestone is NOT a date, it is an event. A milestone marks a
transition from one state of affairs to another. For example, approval is
received on a proposal or a contract is signed, that sort of thing. So
scheduling a milestone each week without saying just what the milestone
represents doesn't really tell you much. The milestones occur on dates but
it is the event that occurs, not the date on which it occurs, that is the
milestone and those dates can change as conditions within the project
change.
