distribution list maximum size

Does anyone know if there is a maximum size the
distribution list can be. I have a friend who is trying
to send email to 800+ people and every time she tries to
send it to the list her system hangs. Her sys admin has
told her that you can not send to this large a list
because it is a limitation of outlook. Does anyone know
if this is true, or how I can find out.

Is the personal distribution list in a folder that is on an Exchange server
or in a Personal Folders file? Also what version of Outlook?
