Document layout changes from view to print preview

We have a document made up of many sub documents. When viewing the
document and all subdocuments the page count is 395 but when print
previewing the page count is 389 and the layout of the images on the
document is a mess. I have checked page sizes and regional settings
and can't find what is causing the problem.

Has anyone seen this problem before and what is the solution?

My guess is that the various sub-documents were prepared on different PCs
with different printer drivers. The answer is to combine into a single
document and tidy up the formatting.
