'document or path name is not valid' when trying to open word doc

Im trying to open a word doc, and I keep getting this message "The document
name or path name is not valid please try these suggestions.. check the file
permissions for the document or drive or use the file open dialogue box to
find..."
Ive tried the second, not sure how to check the first, but the doc looks
normal, in properties says that it is 320 KB, autorecover looks normal too
but wont open like the original... Ive tried searching for similar names,
moving it, renaming it, ive looked through all the troubleshooters, but
nothing seems to address this. PLEASE HELP

Have you tried opening it using another text editor like WordPad or Notepad?

Yes I have!! Notepad opened with a load of garbage and wordpad had "an
unexpected error!!!

If you have Norton AntiVirus installed, disable its Office Plug-in.

Yes I have Norton, but it didnt work!!
