has anyone used ms project to manage project portfolio, i.e., as a program
manager? any tips you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

yes - I did by creating a master schedule, linking my PM's individual
schedules which used a common resource pool.

Hello Louise, MS Project is a great tool for starting project portfolios at
any level of the organization. Go to my book publisher at www.jrosspub.com
and key in my last name "Rollins" in the home page search field to find my
best seeling book on portfolio management and PMOs. At the publisher's site
you will find free downloads off my book which contain templates on ms projct
as a portfolio tool. Enjoy.
