Does Windows XP hate Office 97?

F

Fortissima

I have a Certified Data computer with the Windows 98 operating system.
Office 97 runs on this computer without any problems whatsoever. I also
have a HP Pavillion 7975 computer with the Windows XP operating system. I
have tried to set up Office 97 on this HP computer (I have the disc and the
key). When I put the disc in the drive the set up program goes through the
usual steps (including entering the key number) but stops responding at the
point where setup proper starts. No messages, no nothing, just a freeze.
I have done this many times. It appears to be while the file ACMSETUP.EXE is
supposed to be running. I would appreciate some advice on resolving this
matter. Thank you.

Windows XP SP2 patch does hate Office 97!! You need to uninstall SP2 first, then install Office 97 then re-install SP2. This is the only way to circumvent M$ forcing you to buy their latest incarnation in the name of Office 2003.

Hope this proves useful.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.
