Does XP not have Word documents?

I downloaded XP and all my Word document files are being converted to .rtf
files. Is there a download for Word or do I have to buy another program?

If you are referring to Windows XP, no version of Windows includes Word or
Office. They are separate applications that must be purchased. Currently the
most reasonable way to acquire Word is as part of Works Suite 2005, which
includes Word 2002, Works, Encarta, Money, PictureIt!, and Streets & Trips
(see http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=001).
You can get it for $89 at Amazon (with free shipping), and there is a $20
mail-in rebate in effect through January 1, 2006, making the effective price
