Double sent items

I use Outlook with Office XP. When I send an item it gets saved in me Sent
Items folder twice. It appears that it's being saved once when I click the
Send button and a second time when I click the Send/Receive button. Can I
disable one or the other of these features so I only have one item in the
Sent Items folder? How do I do it?
