downloading powerpoint templates

Some powerpoint templates that I downloaded worked perfectly. Other ones
were automatically altered when opened in Powerpoint. The colors etc are the
same but the layout is totally different. Has anyone encountered this?

You would need to provide us with more information. What version of PowerPoint?
What is the URL of the site you downloaded the templates from? What are the
names of the templates? Which ones worked and which ones didn't? What are the
changes to layout that you are seeing?
