duplexing issue with word 2003

I have an HP 2015 dn laser printer and I am using word 2003. When I select
duplexing from my printer properties it will not duplex the first page. I
have tried printing front to back and back to front with the same results. It
will even print out the first page and act like it is going to duplex but
then spit it back out without duplexing. I have tried printing a pdf and it
worked fine and printed on both sides from the start of the document. I am
using windows xp pro.

any help would be appreciated.
