Duration in Hours - Gantt chart

Lowkey

A complicated title but it relates to the previous two posts.

Project duration, as well as the tasks, is tracked in hours in my new job.
I'm trying to learn how to do this in MS Project. For example, let's say I
have a task that I know is going to take 40 hours. I want to enter 40 hours
for the duration and have it appear as five full days in the gantt chart.
Instead the task ends in about 3 days. Through trial and error, it appears
Project has a 54 hour work week when selecting task duration based on hours.
How do I modify it so it recognizes an 8 hour work day.

Hello Lowkey,

Don't confuse Work and duration !

The default settings of Project 2003 English version are :
8,00 hours per day : Tools / Options / Calendar
40,00 hours per week
These settings must be homogeneous with the project's calendar :
Tools/ Change Working Time...
The default slot in timetable are : 08:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00

Thanks Gerard,

It was exactly the case. My base calendar was not congruous with a 40 hr
work week. There was an extra 3.5 hours/day worked in. I hope it's a joke on
the new guy.
