edit task calendars?

We haven't started our project and the task calendars have all been turned
upside down. I'm in MP 2007.

In a nutshell, all the exception dates in all my task calendars have
changed. I had set up exception dates according to the times the tasks cannot
happen. Now I have new information that changes the restriction dates. (It's
a construction project and we can't drill during the times the wildlife are
nesting and lambing. We now have new information, therefore new restrictions.)

Do I just go into the task calendars and delete/rewrite the exception dates?
Or should I back up and do new task calendars, delete the old ones and apply
new ones?

How would you approach it? I don't want to mess it up!

If it was me, I'd go to Tools - Organizer and make a copy of the original
Task calendar and give it a new name, just for historical purposes, and just
in case something goes wrong. And then I'd go to Tools - Change Working
Time, select the newly copied Task calendar, and then delete unneeded
exceptions and create new ones. Then I would temporarily insert the Task
Calendar column into the Entry table in the Gantt Chart view, and select the
new Task calendar in place of the old one. After I finished setting the
Task calendar values for the respective tasks, I would hide the Task
Calendar column. But that's just me. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Thank you for your prompt reply! I have a couple of questions regarding your
answer:

First, unless it's necessary for some Project reason, I don't think I need
to make copies for historical purposes. The old calendars are just plain
wrong (we got bad information).

With that in mind, can I just delete the old exceptions in the existing
calendars and create new ones?

Will Project then modify the tasks that calendar is attached to or do I need
to do anything further?

Thanks for your patience.

If you don't need the old, bad historical data, simply edit the Task
calendar, remove the wrong execeptions, edit existing ones, and create new
ones as needed. You do not need to reapply this calendar as a Task calendar
since it is already assigned to tasks. Hope this helps.

Dale,

What a relief! (I was concerned because I messed something up earlier and
had to start over on some tasks.)

It worked perfectly. I am on some tight deadlines and don't know where I'd
be without this group.

Thank you!
