Editing emails in Word

Hello!
I'm disabled, and have had no PC training whatsoever. I've caught on to
quite a bit;
the harder it is, the better I'm able to master it. But I can't figure out
how to do anything in Word! I get email jokes from friends every day, and am
tired of printing out the ones I like with all the forwarding trails, and the
stuff that follows. I waste 2-3 pieces of paper to get a joke that's 2-3
paragraphs long! I know they can be edited, but no matter how much I try, I
can't do it! Please help me! I don't know what a lot of words people use to
describe what they're doing. I just need simple, if possible, step by step
instructions on how to cut or delete all the extra stuff away from what I
want. If someone could do this for me, it would be the best gift I've gotten
since my youngest grandson was born 1 and 1/2 years ago!

Anyone out there who could probably explain this easily in their sleep? I
would deeply appreciate it! Limited budgets don't go hand in hand with
2/3rds of a ream going to waste, not to mention ink! Please, someone send me
help!

You can use the same method to highlight text in Word and choose menu
Edit>Copy to save it into the clipboard. Then, for example, open an existing
joke list document or create a new one in Word and Edit>Paste into that
other document the contents of the clipboard. Then print that other document
with only the jokes. Use the Word Help Menu and enter 'clipboard' for more
help using Word to move text around.

One more thing.
Since you posted into a Word newsgroup, I focused on Word in my previous
response.

However, since you are a novice, you might not know that the Clipboard is
available in almost every application in Windows, Macintosh, and Linux to
temporarily store and retrieve information. So you could possibly copy the
joke out of you email reader ( sometimes called email client ) and paste
into Word, Wordpad, or NotePad to print the contents of the Clipboard.
NotePad in Windows is enough when you only need to print plain text.
Use Word for formatting text or use Edit>Find or Replace to manipulate text
in most text editors.

Thank you so much for replying to my post! The link you gave me is very
helpful. I wish I had understood the rest, because my ultimate goal is to
have my jokes follow one after another, so eventually I can add the pictures
I have plcked out to go with them. I have a really great greeting card CD I
can import any pictures I like into it. I didn't understand most of what I'm
sure would be an easy explanation to most. I'm by no means stupid, but as I
said, I don't understand the language used to explain procedures like what I
asked for. I have seen the clipboard, and references made about it here and
there, but not enough to understand how to use it. I can retrieve the
numbers needed to have whatever program you use re-install itself from the
hard drive, I've made some repairs in a few towers, and have built 3
motherboards. (I had no training in this-it all comes so naturally to me)
Anything that catches my interest I go straight to the core, and can do what
a lot of others can't. I'm mechanically inclined, and it's a piece of cake
for me. I've learned to navigate the web pretty well. am cautious of the
sites if they're new to me because I don't want viruses, but have no
knowledge of simple things. I'm struggling with copy and paste! I don't
know anything about paint, word, excel, or other programs I should have
researched when I started in the first place. I know you broke it down to
what seems to you intermediate, and God love ya! I'll print out what you
sent, and try to do it, but I think the explanation went over my head. I
guess I need to find "Word for Dummies" and try to get the gist of the
language. I've done this with the guitar, and sewing, too. In both
instances, I had to backtrack to learn what I was doing was called, and learn
basics in order to teach others. I thank you again, and if you have any
other suggestions or links, I would so appreciate it! Oh, and I right-click
as much as left; it's so much less time-consuming! Again, I thank you!

Just remember that everyone starts off with too little knowledge on a
subject and if you have any specific questions on using Word, you have found
the right newsgroup.
There are newsgroups for many different topics. Other places to learn about
using computers are a local community college course, nearby computer club
meetings and free library or area county seasonal recreational classes.

For explanation of terminology or other help, put the terminology phrases in
the searchbar of these sites and search sites like: Google, Answers, About,
Howstuffworks, Info, Wikipedia.org, Helpmerick, Pcannoyances, for example.

Google has more than one type of Group to search in, when you get there.

Tip: Enter the key word(s) of a site address listed above in your internet
browser address bar and try pressing keys Control/Enter to have browser try
to flesh out address with the standard prefix and suffix required for the
full address.( the 'http:\\www......com' parts )

Yes, A lot of people should try right clicking; or right click and drag and
drop more often, because that adds useful functions right at the mouse
pointer without going to the menus. And the functions are usually
contextual, meaning what you see in a right click list in one part of a
program will be different from what you see in another right click list in
another part of a program. It depends on the current 'context' of what you
are currently doing in the program application or operating system (Windows
OS, i.e.). So right clicking on the Desktop is different than right clicking
on a folder or file or menu item.

Hi, Russ! I've taken some time to familiarize myself w/the word toolbars,
what they do, how to place moving ones, so forth. I appreciate your
encouragement in letting me know I'm in the right place! I recieved another
site that seems to start at point A; I'm definitely going to try to learn as
much as I can, but will no doubt have more questions! I hope you're around,
because I'm beginning to understand what you're explaining, and will continue
to go through your information until I understand all the knowledge you
shared with me! You sparked my quriosity, so hopefully I'll want to learn
word like I do other things; as you can tell from past posts, when something
catches my interest, I shake it like a bulldog would and get a great handle
on it! I was never interested in math, like geometry, but after seeing
fractals, and buying a CD on how to make them, I'm sure I'll gladly get into
it again and create my own fractals! I hope you pop in now and then- I enjoy
