Email downloaded but cannot be seen anywhere

I have been having problems with my computer downloading emails which are
then not shown in Outlook 2003. My computer has windows XP. I know the
emails are downloading because my antivirus scanner shows me the number of
emails being downloaded.
Is there any way to
(a) stop this from happening so I can access all downloaded emails and
(b) retrieve the emails which have downloaded but now disappeared?

Outlook 2003 with all Service Packs?

Did you try the "/Cleanviews" parameter?

What happend if you shut down your "antivirus scanner" for a few minutes?
Can you see it now?
