Email stays in outbox, continues to send repeatedly until manually deleted

When I send a simple text message, it goes through
without a problem. when I send an email with a large
attachment (i.e., photos), it will successfully send to
all recipients but repeatedly (20-30 times!) until i go
into my outbox and manually delete it. I looked in a
google group and i see lots of people have this problem
with outlook express but i haven't seen any solution that
works for outlook. Any ideas?

You may be getting a spurious timeout - are you seeing any
sort of error message? I corrected this problem with large
attachments (1 MB or greater) by setting the server
timeout value to 10 minutes, which cleared it up

hi. thank you for the suggestion. how do you set the
timeout value to 10 mns? will recipients still get as
many copies as can be sent in 10 minutes? do you know
what's causing this? i bought my pc through dell but
they can't seem to help me. each time i call them, they
have me do something which causes me to lose data. they
asked me to run detect and repair and it caused me to
lose all my emails. mcafee had me run a scan in DOS and
had me download a stinger. is this a virus/worm or some
glitch in outlook? really appreciate your help. this is
making me nuts. LKH

Here's how to fix it (and it fixed it just fine on my
Dell, using Office 2003, WinXP and a DSL line): In the
Outlook application, click on "Tools" and then "Email
Accounts"; opt to change an existing account; highlight
your current account and click "Change". On the next
screen, select "more settings" and then click on
the "Advanced" tab. You'll see a slide widget for
selecting Server Timeouts - drag it all the way to the
right (which is the 10 minute setting). Exit through the
screen sequence normally (don't "cancel").

I had the same problem sending large attachments; they
were delivered successfully, but Outlook thought they had
failed, kept them active in the Outbox, and resent them
per my send/receive schedule. This eliminated the problem
completely. The large attachments messages were sent, the
process completely normally, and Outlook cleared the
Outbox.

BTW, I found this fix further back in this forum, and
must credit "Bishoop" for recommending it. I hope it
works for you; so far it's worked for everyone with the
same reported problem who has applied it, so I'm
confident it will solve your dilemma as well.

Good Luck!

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000 & 2002 from the Office
family for Windows PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting in one
of
these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...blic.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress
for OE 5.5x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...ublic.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
for OE 6.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...;newsgroupsmicrosoft.public.internet.mail.mac
for the Macintosh version of OE
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...ess.mac&SLCID=US&sd=GN&id=fh;en-us;newsgroups

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup
references are for use with MS's web newsreader (not exactly the best way to
post but it works for some people)

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Elizabeth asked:
