emailing from Office

Hi,
I am using Office XP and I'm having difficulty emailing files directly
from any Office application through Outlook.
These are some of the error messages I receive:
"Excel could not start the email program. Check your network connection.
Make sure your Office is installed correctly, and you can connect to your
email server."
"Word could not open the email envelope. This could be caused by a network
connection problem or a problem with your Office Instalation."

It worked before, so I dont know what happened. The steps I take are as
follows:
Click File, Send to, Mail Recipient.

Sending the files as an attachments works fine. However, trying to embed
the file into the email is the issue.

I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Office. The computer is not on a
network.

Any help would be appreciated.

What version of Outlook are you using? Is Outlook open when you try to send
via an Office File->sendto?

I'm using Office XP. The same error occurs, whether Outlook is open or if it
is closed.
