I would like to create link via a macro in word that allows the user
to attach an excel file that they browse to find and then compete the
procedure manually

Can this be done?can you provide an example?

The link to an Excel file is maintained in Word by a LINK field. Go
through the steps manually, then press Alt+F9 to see the field code.

The macro would display a dialog box to get the path information from
the user. It should then use the Fields.Add method to create the LINK
field.

Hmmm. I'm mentally trying to come to terms with a Word novice
trying to create a macro for linking outside the Word
application...

What steps would you normally use to bring the Excel information
into Word and link it? And which version of Office are you using?
