Embedding Excel Files Makes Word Files Huge!

Is there any way to add Excel files to Word documents (reports) without creating files too large to e-mail? We do reports that can be in excess of 100 pages and import Excel charts, which has worked fine to print hard copies. However, we now have requests to e-mail these reports, and they are too large to go to many mailboxes. Converting to pdf is fine, except the recipient cannot edit them (which is a problem). Any ideas?

I do transcription of audio/video files for a local business but I work from home. These files are huge and to large for email and it was too inconvenient to keep going back and forth for the CDs, so they set up an ftp site so I could enter a special password and then copy the files to my local drive. I don't anymore about this sort of thing but maybe it will "tickle" you with the possibility.

Hi SuziQ,

Do the charts need to be edited or just the document? If the charts do not need to be edited then you can copy them from Excel as pictures instead.

In Excel, select the chart, hold Shift and click the Edit menu. There you will find the Copy Picture command.

Images instead of embedded objects will reduce the file size.
