embedding fonts in a template

Can you embed true type fonts in a template in Word 2003?

I can embed fonts in a document successfully, but when I
save it as a template (even when I simply change the
documents file extension to .dot) the font defaults when
I open the template in Word 2003.

I can do it successfully in Word 2000, but when I open
the same template (created in Word 2000) in Word 2003 the
font also defaults.
