emoticons

Hi. all of the sudden when I type an emoticon in word and
excel instead of it turning to the appropriate smiley face
I get a "greek" character. I have not changed any of my
preferences that would make this happen and am using my
normal format, as usual. the only thing that is different
is that I recently signed onto the Mac Excel X newsgroup
and began getting lots of virus reports, e-mails in foreign
languages (non-english), and spam.

anyone out there know why I can't type and use emoticons
anymore? Anyone out there have the same issue with weird
e-mails after using a newsgroup?

Also, is someone aware that the section of the Mactopia
page where one is to choose the product they want help with
is broken; several of us can't scroll through the list to
get to the actual product we're looking for and the webpage
feedback link is evidently down.

thanks for you help!

I'm not sure what's causing this (signing on to the Excel newsgroup
definitely *wont* cause this).

In Tools/Autocorrect, do you see the emoticons?

You can use the Help/Feedback on <application> menu item from any
Office v.X application, or use this direct link:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/feedback/suggestion.asp

you can also send a message via email to

mailto:[email protected]

(make sure you put Macintosh and the Product in the Subject line so
that the message gets routed to the correct program managers)

What page is not working correctly for you (using which browser and
version)?
