Hi,

I am using Microsoft Project 2003 Professional and when I use the filter
function for one of my documents it crashes and displays the following
message.

Microsoft Project has encounted a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience, Restart Microsoft Project.

I have tried using the filter function on a number of documents and still
get the same error. I tried reinstalling Project, installing the latest
updates and patches and still it give me an error. My computer is a laptop
and the model is a Hewlett Packard HP Compaq 8510w. I am using Windows XP
Professional with service pack 2.

Please could you help us with this issue.

Is there one specific filter causing the problem, or any filter you try to
apply?
Is it a custom filter, or one from out of the box?

If some filters work while others cause a crash, you may want to edit the
specific filters in question: Project/Filter For..../More Filters...
Select the filter giving you a problem and select Edit...

Although I have not heard of this problem specifically, installation of SP3
for Microsoft Project 2003 may help.

There is another option: Help/Detect & Repair...

Perhaps if you provide some more specific information, a more specific
answer can be provided.

You may also want to look at FAQ#43 (concerns corrupt files). Click the
link below, then FAQ and scroll to #43.

HI,

I have installed service pack 3, also I have performed detect and repair
project and reinstalled Project aswell. None of these have worked so far.
When I open the project file and use the filters on another computer it works
fine. So the problem is my laptop.

The filters are custom and everyone gives an error.

I will try some of the suggestions in the FAQ and will get back to you.

Thanks.

HI,

I have viewed the WER log files in local settings and it does not indicate
what the issue may be. I have also reinstalled Microsoft Office just in case
and it has not helped.

Do you have any other suggestions, would deleting and recreating the user
profile help?

Thanks.

Hello Sails,

A quick search in this newsgroup on google groups for "hp laptop"
turned up 9 posts about problems with Microsoft Project and HP laptops
crashing when using filters. As I haven't seen the issue personally,
I can't comment directly. But from the posts it seems to be an issue
with fingerprint readers and credential manager. Try a google search
and read through those posts.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi,

I have read about this issue on the google groups website and found some
posts relating to the issue.

The cause of the problem maybe something to do with the either the
Credential Manager for HP ProtectTools or the HP Fingerprint Sensor or both.

I will try disabling these features to see if it solve the issue.

The problem is now solved, uninstalling the HP Credential Manager fixed the
issue.

Thanks for all your help.
