Entourage failure - emails disappearing and unable to delete

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

Today my emails disappeared from many of my folders, particularly my Inbox and Deleted ones. I found that by clicking in the empty space they could be seen. Something like this happened once before on my old mac and I cleared it by deleting loads of mails with attachments etc. Making space seemed to solve the problem then but not now. I've deleted loads of stuff but can't actually delete some. You can see one mail, then there's an empty space underneath it, then another mail. If it does delete, it usually deleted the mail above the one highlighted. I still can't see any mails in my Inbox unless I click on the empty space. Can anyone help please?

This is a sign of database corruption. If you are low on disk space this
could also be playing a part in the problem.

You need a minimum of 10% free space for virtual memory. See this page for
how to check:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/performance2.html>

If you are really low on space, work on this first. Then test to see if you
still see the problem in Entourage. If you do then you need to rebuild your
Identity.

Make a duplicate in the Finder first as additional backup. A rebuild does
make a duplicate, but sometimes in the process the original and backup get
merged resulting in total disaster. It's rare but it happens.

How to rebuild:

Thank you so much for your reply. I had the EXACT same problem and by following the rebuild it fixed it immediately. I knew I had to rebuild but couldn't figure out how exactly to get to it. Love that Option key!

My thanks too Diane. I did what you said and cleared a lot of stuff - that was not enough - and then rebuilt the database - never done that before. It worked. I'm really grateful.

Hello,

Now, let's make it worse: if it can't even rebuild its database... Is it the end of the world (for me...)

Adding your problem on to another thread is not a good idea. We don't have
your details to know exactly what your situation is to offer solutions.

If you have the right equipment you can rebuild yourself. I do recovery for
users that are unable to do it for themselves. Follow these directions:

Rebuilding a damaged database that exceeded size limit

xceeded_size_limit.html>

In case the above link does not work:

If you still have problems, start your own thread with some details like
what version of Entourage your have, what OS, how big is your hd, how much
free space on your drive, how big if your database.
