Error 1406 on installation of Business Contact Manager

Any known solution to receiving "Error 1406: Could not write value to
key\SOFTWARE" when installing Business Contact Manager from the CD to my hard
drive? I also received the same error message when installing an Office
Update from the Microwsoft web site.
