In the Office 2003 series going between two editions in the same series was considered by Microsoft to be a 'cross-grade'
installation rather than an upgrade (i.e. you couldn't use one Office 2003 edition as the qualifying product to install an 'upgrade'
package of another Office 2003 edition). You'd need to have a prior version qualifying product either installed or have its CD.
For Office 2007, Microsoft changed to make crossgrades/upgrades both use the same qualifying product rules (i.e. both are 'upgrade'
scenarios).

professional edition 2003 on a Vista laptop. Everytime that I try, I get
