Error messafe when trying to open certain Excel files

I get the following error message when attempting to open up certain Excel
files ...
"Microsoft Office Excel has encountered a problem and needs to
close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The only thing I noticed was that these files were created in old Excel
version and now I am trying to open these files in Excel 2003.

The Error Signature is-
