I am getting an error message "0x80042109 'Sending and
Receiving' reported error - unable to connect to outgoing
SMTP email server." According to MS documentation this
error message is due to using Outlook 2002 with MSN. This
computer is using a local cable service, not MSN. The
user of this computer says that about the time this
problem started (week and a half ago) he updated his
McAffee virus files, but he's pretty sure he did this
after he started having the email problems. He was able
to receive mail but not send it. He also said that the
email he was trying to send was not particularly large,
and didn't have any attachments.
I checked his port settings and SSL info for Outlook and
both were fine. Accessing the Internet isn't a problem
either.
Today while I was searching for a solution, the computer
all of a sudden was able to both send and receive again.
It definitely was not due to anything I did. I'm afraid
that unless I figure out some possible causes for this
problem, this is just going to happen again as soon as I
leave. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
