Error message on saving when in Excel

The error message that comes up when we try to save is

'Excel cannot complete the task with available resources choose less data or
close other applications. '

I found some information on the Microsoft website to update to SP3 for
office which I have done but we still get the same problem. When this error
message comes up then we only have Excel as an application open. The PC is a
P4 2.5 GHz with 1GB RAM.
