Error synching group with AD

Joseph

I just installed Project Server 2003 SP1 and am trying to
get it to sync the Team Members group with the AD. Every
time I do a manual update it fails and generates 2 event
log errors. The most useful one is: Accessing AD group
xyz.group failed due to error -2147467259-FetchGroup:
Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL
status. I have double checked that the AD group exists
and is a security group. Any ideas on what might be
causing this?
Thanks

Hi Joseph,

Search for my thread on "Active Directory Synchronizing problem". I
wrestled with this problem for almost two weeks! I had set up a test server
and the AD synch worked beautifully. Then I installed on a real production
server and got the exact same thing you did. Five uninstall/reinstall
later, went through all the Microsoft docs, and I've concluded this is a bug
in with Project 2003 and SP1. What has worked for me is NOT to do a manual
update. Setup your synch for something like daily and then selet a time
that's close to the current time. A few minutes after your selected time,
look at the synch status and hopefully it worked!

My server will generate those two events like yours every time I do a manual
update. Switching it to schedule and it works again. I've tried to contact
Microsoft but they don't want to listen.

I called Microsoft weeks ago requesting this hotfix. I was told the hotfix
was replaced by a newer culmulative hotfix, 885224
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;885224). So I
received that, applied it, and it didn't fix the problem. Thus, my two
weeks struggling with this. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else who's
applied 838882 and whether it corrected this particular problem.

Yes, applied SP1 --- to the letter! Also installed all updates for Windows
SharePoint services...

[My server is now in production and works well enough with the AD synch set
to manually synch daily]
