Error: "The operation failed due to a network or other communication problem"

Keep getting this error on Outlook 2000 when opening an
email. "The operation failed due to a network or other
communication problem" After hitting OK, the email seems
to open correctly and looks correct. But it happens about
30% of the time. Already tried fixing it using KB 813742,
but error came right back. Anyone have any idea's?

dusted off an old laptop and my Outlook is running into this error too.

it happens when I send a message and when I hit "Send" - this error pops up.

If I try to hit "Send & Receive" - I get the error too.

after many tries and trying the mentioned registry hack, somehow the messages got sent.

I can't for the life of me figure out what to do with the error - as far as I'm concerned I can't send messages from Outlook.

I have it configured with gmail IMAP at the moment.

I know it's a long shot but if anyone has any other ideas or, Theresa, if you've seen solved the issue, let us know!
