Error when opening any part of Office X.v under Mac 10.2.6

I recently started getting the following message when I try to launch
Word or Excel from the Office 10.1.2 package: "The application xxx has
unexpectedly quit. No orthe applications have been effected."
I had the program working fine for some time. I have tried throwing
out the application and re-installing but I still get the same
message. I also downloaded the updater to Office 10.1.2 which is what
I am now running but still no fix.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and if so did you figure it out?

Thanks in advance.

First - look in the previous messages in this newsgroup to see if
anyone's had this problem (they have).

Second - if you don't see any, you can always search the archives:

http://google.com/advanced_group_search?q=group:*mac.office*

Here's one strategy:

1) Make sure your OS is fully updated (System Preferences/Software
Update).

2) Repair Permissions:

OS 10.2.x: Run the Disk Utility (in the ./Applications/Utilities
folder). From the First Aid tab, click "Repair Disk Permissions".

OS 10.1.5: Run Repair Privileges (same folder, or download from
Apple:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106900

3) Run Disk First Aid.

4) Test for a corrupt font:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313535

5) Test your Preferences (~:Library:preferences:Microsoft folder,
where ~ is your home folder). With All Office apps closed, move the
Microsoft folder to a safe location, then restarting Word or XL.

6) If none of that works, run the Remove Office application from the
install disk (it picks up files that you'll probably miss if you
remove files manually). Reinstall office then download and install
both the 10.1.2 and 10.1.4 updaters. After running them, repair
permissions as in 2) above.

Thank you so much.
This all started to make sense when I read your solution. I had an
issue the other day when I was updating to a new version of the
accounting software MYOB. I ahd designed a custom invoice and could
not get it to print after I updated. Well - it turns out was a corrupt
font. You have solved both my problems when I never knew they were
related. MYOB tried to tell me that my logo was corrupt - glad to here
it's just a font.

Thanks again!
