Error when opening document with Word 2003

I installed Office 2003 Professional on top of an Office 2000 setup. I find
that everything works fine except when I launch a *.DOC file by double
clicking on it. Word starts to open and then I get the following error:

"The command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open. Click OK, and
then close open dialog boxes to continue."

IF I click on "OK", Word then loads the document. I never see or close any
other dialog boxes. There are no error messages in eh Event Logs.

Any ideas where to look?
