Error when trying to play a mpeg file from digital camera in a sli

The video will play in windows media player, but when i place it in the
slide, theres just a still pic, then i get an error, and message says power
point needs to close.

What is the make and model of the camera? Many digital cameras use proprietary
codecs. Also, if the camera came with software that is installed on your
system, the software may have tampered with your MCI settings. However, it is
unusual for PowerPoint to error out and close.
