exceeded the number of cells that can be uniquely formatted

Has anyone ever seen this message? Is there a known limit to the number of
formats that can be done. We have a pretty extensive project and are trying
to track changes via colors. What is the limit to formats such as font
colors that can be done in project?

spacewill,
Yes, but not for several years. At one time I knew what the limit was
but all that I can recall now is that it is some multiple of 2 (e.g.
256, 512, etc.).

I ran into the limit when I was developing a compare macro for Project
files (long before it was included with Project). I highlighted the
differences between the two files using font color. I got around the
limit by selecting multiple cells and then formatting the selection. Of
course I was using VBA so it was a little easier to fill up an array
with the changes and then apply the font formatting to that selection. I
believe you can select up to 10 independent groups of cells at one time.

Hope this helps.

Tracking changes via color or formatting is kind of a bad idea. For one
thing, some people are colorblind, and interpreting the color requires some
sort of knowledge of their meaning as well. I'm a pretty graphical person,
but I'd put the data in a text field and use indicators or something like
that.
