Excel 2002/XP send mail tool bar button gives a error

Excel 2002/XP send mail tool bar button gives a error after upgrading to
Outlook 2003. The error is Excel could not start the e-mail program

Check your network connection, make sure office is installed correctly, your
e-mail program is set up correctly, and you can connect to your e-mail server.

I can go to file and send and send the wokbook without a problem. I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling both excel and outlook. I installed service
pack 3 for XP and service pack 2 for 2003. I can send a blank spread sheet
using the tool bar button but once I put data in it I get the above error. Is
there a setting I need to change or a patch I need to download.

Excel and Outlook have to be the same version in order for the
Send Mail button to work. You now have a newer version of
Outlook than Excel.
