runtime error

When attempting to open an e-mail attachment which was typed in Word, a
message appears -

Runtime Error!

Program:C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office 10/WINWORD:EXE

abnormal program termination

I have Word 2002 & have installed XP Service Pack 3

I also installed RegCure - a program that is supposed to fix runtime errors,
but it did not.

Help, please.

Do you know what version of word was used to generate the attachment? The
various versions of word can save a document generated by word in different
formats. If the format that was used is not compatable with your version of
word, you can get the results you mention. There are "converters", etc.
available from Microsoft, if this is actually your problem. Or, the sender
may be able to save in a mutually compatable form and resend.

It's doubtful that "RegCure" will solve a problem that may have been caused
by a Word version mismatch.

Thank you, Chuck. My problem was solved by my PC's technical support who
disassociated attachments from Word to Wordpad, then back to Word again.
Apparently the cause was a corrupted file.
