Excel 2008 Issue: Changing dates automatically

K

Kait@Exari

I am having issues using the Excel spreadsheet as when I copy and paste dates
from one excel spreadsheet into another (in order to update the old
information) it changes the dates dramatically. For example, I may be
copy/pasting the date 4/06/2006, but Excel automatically changes the date to
4/06/2012. There is no reason for this, as the formatting is completely taken
off. I don't know what is going on. Can someone help me? I would really
appreciate it.

Thank you

Well, there is a very definite reason for this. The reason is that the 2
workbooks have different date calculation bases. Look in the calculations
tab of Excel preferences and make sure the 1904 date system is the same for
both sheets.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I am looking for the calculation tab, and
all that I can see are the automatic, automatic except for data tables, and
manual. Am I looking in the right place? Or is this "calculations
preferences" in another tab?

Thank you!

It is the calculation tab, look in workbook options.

Okay, I found the Calculation options, but I still only see the first three
values...

workbook calculation
automatic
automatic except for data tables
manual
enable iterative calculation
max iterations 100
max change .001

there isn't anything else under calculation options...

I am sorry to bother you with all these questions!

Isn't there a check box labeled "1904 date system" in the calculation tab ?

Kaitlyn -

You have described the Calculation options for Windows Excel 2007.

You have posted in the Mac Excel newsgroup, and your message subject
specifies Excel 2008, which is a Mac version of Excel.

If you want to change dates in Windows Excel 2007, choose Office Button |
Excel Options | Advanced, and scroll down to the section "When calculating
this workbook" to see the checkbox for "Use 1904 date system."
