When viewing the email, should be obvious that there is an attachment in
the space under where it says "subject". If not there then maybe your
friend didn't actually attach anything. Contact you friend to check.
Also, since you've never used Excel, why should you start now. When you
talk with your friend, negotiate some other way for him/her to
communicate with you.
Failing that:
1. read in Outlook Help about attachments.
2. assuming you have Excel, read in Help about how to use it.
