Excel- Cell formatting

When I put a whole number in a cell, the number is
converted to a decimal number. For example, a "1" is
changed to ".01.
A message appears on the screen, "You must enter a number
in this cell."
This occurs in a new Excel worksheet as well as an Excel
template.
This condition just started. Excel is used in a basic
application.
